Food day Canada is a national celebration of Canadian cuisine, local farmers and ingredients, and our local chefs and cooks. On Saturday August 4th people from across the nation will gather to celebrate their food and their culinary experiences.
Organizer Anita Stewart has been spearheading this project since 1983, and with great success. Each year chefs from across the country gather to celebrate everything “local, regional and seasonal.” Due to her hard work she has been awarded a multitude of well-deserved awards, most recently she was made a Member of the Order of Canada.
This year Anita will be kicking off Food Day Canada in St. John’s with a bang. Chef Roary MacPherson of Oppidan in the Sheraton along with Ms. Stewart will be ringing In the Day starting at Midnight on August the 3rd on Signal Hill. The town crier will be there and Chef MacPherson will be serving some tasty treats to ring in another year of culinary excellence in Canada. Everyone is welcome to attend, and if previous events with Chef MacPherson are any indication, this is sure to be a great time.
